Summary: One step closer to home.

 

 

He hesitated before placing the full spoon in his mouth, unhappy – even after all these months? Years? – that he was eating something so disgustingly tasteless.

 

An energetic shout from one of the tents and he glanced at the flamboyant blond skipping in his general direction. How the man managed to look so put together covered in dust and scratches was beyond Shizuka and better left for someone else to ponder.

 

Like Kurogane.

 

Shizuka’s mouth quirked when Fai threw his arms around his red-eyed companion. The blond nuzzled into the other's side and Shizuka felt his heart clench for a moment at the display. It irked him a little that Fai felt the need to spread his happiness and then he felt bad, because who was he to deny anyone that piece of imagined paradise.

 

Shizuka stared at Fai for several beats. “Why are you always so happy?”

 

Fai’s smile lit up their small space in the camp. “Because, no matter what may happen, I hold hope that our saviours will come.”

 

Shizuka blinked at him and frowned, unsure he’d heard right. “Saviours? Plural?”

 

Shizuka didn’t miss the quick arm squeeze around Kurogane before the blond gave him a smile, forced as it was. “Never mind, Shi~zu~ka~”

 

Shizuka twitched at the use of his name, unused to anyone other than his partner calling him that. He absently ate the last of his food, not entirely missing the glance passed between his co-prisoners.

 

He focussed his thoughts and wondered just what – he refused to call it hitzusen because realistically he made his own fate – was in store for him.

 

The wind was beginning to change and he could have sworn he smelt Kimihiro’s cooking.

this AU makes me sadface, but i can easily see this stretching into a multiple drabble series. even without the use of a prequel to explain how everyone got captured, or who the big baddies are, or what CLAMP universe in, this draws the readers in. keep it up and keep it detailed. i wonder how many CLAMP characters you can juggle ..?
