Title: When Time Is Short, Run

Rating: PG

Pairing: Zoro/Sanji

Prompt (from Syb): Parkour Move

A/N: Still a little unsure as to why they’re running. We’re going to assume that they’re late in leaving.

Shouts rang all around them, bouncing off the buildings and following them as they flew over rooftops and verandas. Several times they'd passed through open windows and into rooms, startling the occupants and throwing back apologies as they vaulted clear of high stairwells.

They'd taken so many turns now that even Sanji wouldn't be able to rib Zoro about his lack of direction sense. They sailed over another rooftop and Zoro rolled with the slope of the tile, his foot slipping to the gutter and nearly sending him to the ground.

They jumped for the next building and grabbed at the window frames, toes instinctively trying to curl around the narrow sills. Zoro's swords scraped over the brick and he took a moment to adjust them. Sanji surged ahead, springing from the tiny edge and pulled himself onto the roof. He glanced back down and Zoro's head popped up next to him. The blond growled and the swordsman smirked at him.

Sanji grabbed at his ear and twisted, earrings trapped between his fingers. Zoro scowled at him and opened his mouth to shout. Yelling rose to a crescendo as the marines closed in on them from several sides. Zoro clambered on to the roof and pushed Sanji on. The cook tried to argue until Zoro drew his swords. He took off as Zoro delivered an attack to the following marines. It flew through them, toppling each one with a splatter of blood. He slowly re-sheathed his katana. Shrieks pierced the air when several bodies slipped to the ground and landed with hard thumps.

He caught up with Sanji and staggered to a stop as the cook paused mid-stride and fumbled his way into a crouch. Zoro judged the distance to their target. That was a hell of a long way to jump. Sanji's fingers tapped the roofs edge and he came to a decision. He took several backward steps and propelled himself forward. With arms outstretched, his fingers wrapped around - what could now only be considered the most convenient placement of an object - a proud flagpole. He spun several times until his feet found purchase against the smooth surface and then used it as a launching pad to jump to the next roof.

Zoro could only stare in awe.

A lit cigarette later and Sanji was raising his eyebrow at Zoro, telling him to get his ass moving. Zoro wasn't that agile and had to settle for a long ground jump and then a run up the side of the building. The blond smirked at him and Zoro refrained from cutting the idiot to pieces. Now really wasn't the time.

Bullets danced around them in their hesitation. Just how many of the bastards were there? One got a little too close for comfort when it ripped Sanji's cigarette from between his lips. Running was probably the best thing to do.

Shouts from the streets below had followed them as several children tried to match their speed. The kids thought it was a game and neither of them wanted to endanger the locals.

They spotted the top of the mast and the Strawhat Jolly Roger flapping happily in the wind. They upped their pace and more bullets ricocheted off the roof by their feet. They glanced around. Marines were beginning to crawl over the tops of the houses, guns swinging wildly in their direction. In unspoken agreement, they decided to take their chances on the ground.

They dropped from the roof to a deserted alley, running through the maze of narrow passages with people shouting at them from their windows. It didn't take long for Sanji to realise that the pounding of his feet weren't being echoed by the green mammoth. He turned and headed back to where he'd come from, muttering about idiot marimos.

It took even less time to realise that searching on the ground would be utterly useless. He ran up the side of the closest building and carefully poked his head over. With no marines in sight he took off over the roofs once more, gaze pinned to the streets below. He found Zoro trying to stare down a wall in a dead end.

The shouts started up again and Sanji dropped to the ground, grabbed Zoro's hand and dragged him in the right direction. They sprinted through the town centre, dodging bodies and carts, jumping over stalls and splashing their way across several fountains.

They separated to get past a group of laughing children and when Sanji looked, Zoro was already heading back the other way. He swore a blue streak and swung back to get him. A kick to his back and head later and fingers tangled together as they jumped clear of the stairs leading to the dock.

Marines flooded the walkways between the buildings and clattered to the ground as they jumped from the roofs. Over the shouts and clang of swords bumping, Luffy's laughter could be heard. Dirt and cobbled stone gave way to wooden decking and it reverberated under their feet. The last stretch to the ship and they used the side net to go up and over the railing. There was the distinct sound of rubber twang followed by curses as multiple bodies hit the dirt.

Sanji's hand tightened around Zoro's and he hauled him closer, cracking their heads together and launching into a blistering rant about green-haired morons who had no sense of decorum, perpetuated oafish barbarianism and had an extreme lack of directional logic.

Zoro stared at him and heaved a few more breaths, still slightly winded from their impromptu run, stirring the gold fringe of an idiotic, curly-browed ero-cook. His spare hand sought out Sanji's toned ass and groped it. The blond replied with a smirk, a lick of his lips and then he kicked him into a wall.

Sanji lit a cigarette and disappeared into the galley, wondering why the hell he bothered sometimes.
