Title: A Little Control

A/N: Set near the end of chapter 185 (page 11 to be precise). I stopped at a part and wanted to write it, even if I did know what was going to happen next.

“After my body became like this, it seems I’m sensitive to the scent of blood.” Fai withdrew his hand and gazed at the essence he was coated with. “Especially yours.”

 

Fai licked his fingers clean and stared Kurogane in the eyes.

 

“Besides, it’s a little odd for us to be in a room alone and for you not remove your cloak and headdress.”

 

Fai pushed said cloak aside and stared at the join of flesh and machine. He sensed Kurogane clench his teeth as the armour was also pushed aside, baring more evidence of the artificial arm not being a proper fit.

 

Fai wanted to say more. He want to hit the idiot for trying to keep it from him, he wanted to rally and just once, scream that he shouldn’t be lied to. He certainly was a hypocrite, wasn’t he?

 

Instead he stayed silent, placing a hand on Kurogane’s good arm and leaning forward for a better look. He heard the sound of a rapid heartbeat and he felt the slight rise of body temperature the closer he got. He stared hard at the flesh before him, his vampiric self taunting him with the knowledge that his prey was so close and all it would take would be to…

 

Fai inhaled hard and stepped back. He could feel the slight disappoint from the other man but Fai was trying to keep himself in check. It would be so easy to lose, especially where Kurogane was concerned.

 

He turned on his smile – not as big as when he had been lying at the start of their journey, but enough to cover the slip – and took another step back.

 

“I’ll find Kuro-rin some medication, shall I? Make you feel all better.”

 

He turned and slipped out the door, trying to ignore the smell of pulsating blood, so close but so far.

 

He wouldn’t lose to this. He wouldn’t.
