“I’m not afraid!” The kid was pretty definite about that. “I punched the monsters under my bed and they ran away cause my punch is like a pistol and when they came back Ace made them cry and they ran away again.”

 

Ben was a skeptic at heart but that sounded strange, even to him. He glanced at his captain, wondering at his thoughts. He sighed.

 

Shanks was laughing like a lunatic.

 

The kid was glaring for all he was worth and Ben knew he’d have to diffuse the situation, unless he wanted Makino to come and beat Shanks over the head again. The prospect wasn’t unappealing.

 

“I wouldn’t worry, kid. When you get older you won’t have to worry about monsters. You’ll be one.”
