A/N: Maybe a little more original.

“Sign here, here, here and here.” The greasy lawyer pointed out places within the contract and Zoro was sure there were oil tracks left behind.

 

He watched closely as Sanji brandished the pen with a flourish, time slowing with each loop and squiggle and Zoro flinched as the last i was dotted. The two copies were sent across the wide table, halting square in front of him. His hands reached out and fingers dragged over the heavy paper, regret welling inside of him.

 

He hated this. He hated the fact that they needed to part on such uneven terms, he hated the fact that neither family trusted the other, he hated that the two of them couldn’t be trusted by their elders to keep any verbal deals. He hated that he wasn’t allowed to trust his lover – former lover – with his life anymore.

 

The pen – gold and diamond encrusted because this tosser of a lawyer was a pretentious bastard – was set down next to his hand. He looked up and Sanji’s blue eye stared at him, pleading. Whether it was for his acquiesce or complete denial, he really didn’t know. What he did know, was that this couldn’t be put off any longer.

 

He dragged his gaze away and flipped multitudes of pages, “sign here” flags glaring at him. As soon as the ink touched, his own loops and swirls were complete before he could blink.

 

Deal done, boundaries set, property changed hands.

 

The lawyer picked up his work and left without a word. The last thing he wanted to do was hang around in a room with two mafia bosses.

 

Sanji turned his head and looked out the window and Zoro watched as grey clouds formed on the horizon. This was turning out to be a real shitty day.

Why do something that'd make you unhappy? Then again, they probably have obligations to their family's. B-but that doesn't mean that they can't still be lovers. Just that they can't be married.
