Scariest ordeal ever

Only some people know, but when I write I save all my work to a USB drive so I can work on it anywhere and a lanyard is attached to it so it's easy to see. On occasion I remember to back it up - heaven forbid, I lose it all.

Last Monday, I'm pretty sure I had a stroke. The following was an accident in the most epic of ways.

I went out to lunch and someone I work with grabbed for the lanyard, thinking it was my keys. She yanked it...hard. The USB snapped in half, the connector separating from the circuit board.

When I was told, I didn't swear and I didn't panic. I think something may have short-circuited in my brain because I can't really remember what I was thinking at the time. My colleague rushed it down the hallway to one of our IT tenants and told him to do what he could. I was prepared to hear the worst. Two days later and he came to me, grinning. After two hours of some seriously delicate work, everything was saved. I nearly cried in relief.

A warning to those who yank on anything electronic...DON'T. It's just not worth it.
