Title: Unappreciated

Rating: G

No Pairing: Just Sanji having an angst.

A/N: Prompt from Sybile because she can have anything from me if it's in my power to give it...and if it's not, I'll find a way. Prompt=Sanji food.

Everything was perfect. Glasses twinkled, cutlery gleamed, plates shone and the heavenly smell of multiple dishes filled the galley. Colours blended to create works of art; strips and slices arranged just so, sauces complimenting each dish, garnishes giving a final touch of class. It was almost heartbreaking to think, that in the end, the only person who appreciated the beautification of his food was Sanji himself.

It had to be the biggest disappointment but considering how long he'd been cooking for this particular group, he was a little surprised at himself. It shouldn't have mattered, at least not really.

Out of all of them, Luffy had to be the worst. He was sure the shitty captain didn't even taste anything as it went down his gullet, let alone taking the time to stare at it. Chopper was always more intent on finishing and returning to his books, Usopp back to his inventions, Marimo his training or sleeping and as much as he loved the women, even they had their minds firmly entrenched in other things. He wasn't even going to start on Franky and Brook.

Another drag of his cigarette and he found himself at a little bit of a loss. He knew he was a good cook, great even and he prided himself on everything he turned out. He knew the crew appreciated it, even if they never said it...with the exception of Luffy who loved all food and continuously asked for more. But once, just once, he'd like for someone to tell him that he wasn't wasting his skills, that in the end it did mean something. Another dream to add to his already impossible one?

He sighed, stared at the table in loving abandonment and called everyone in for dinner.

He stood over the sink, finishing his cigarette before he'd allow himself to eat. He stared out at the deck and, while no one was watching, maybe he even pouted a little.

He dragged his gaze back to the table and his eyes widened. In the window's reflection he saw everyone pause with their hands over plates, staring at his food and then proceeded to spoon, dip and shovel their way through everything. It was a split second, almost non-existent but he'd seen it. He was sure he had. A quick glance over his shoulder and his gaze collided with Luffy's. An almost imperceptible nod and Sanji nearly fell over in shock.

He felt the need to cry and shout hallelujah but that would have probably been just a little over the top. Instead he allowed a small smile and gave a thanks of prayer to whoever was listening – the saint of cooks, maybe. He didn't need another dream anyway.

That was perfect, I really feel for Sanji here... it's true he doens't have the most appeciative of crews, but even they have to appreciate something from time to time :)

Every Sanji has his day... ;)

Really, strawhats, learn yo appreciate your cook a bit more often!!

It's funny, because he's thinking what everybody who has spent three hours in the kitchen preparing something that is inevitably going to be gobbled down in three minutes eventually thinks.

Awwwww. Yeah, it's nice not to be taken for granted, especially when you make such an effort.

Especially love that he saw them in the window's reflection. Lovely touch.

I can't stop but smiling of this one^^ It was so touching.
I feel sorry for Sanji, and I understand his feelings; Using almost two hours, sometime a whole DAY just to prepare a wonderfull dinner.. and then you have unpatient people who just swallows it down and don't even leaves a comment nor a 'thank you for the dinner'. GRR! ...but okay, then again, when I'm using almost a whole day, I do get good credits for the food... but it's rare that I'm creating such kind of dinners -sweat drops-
Love that even Luffy gave him a nod and Sanji wanting to cry of happiness and shouting hallelujah
