OP Fic: Nightmare - Part 2
Oct. 12th, 2008 02:11 amTitle: Nightmare: Part 2
Rating: PG
Pairings: Obvious when you read it
A/N: Because I can’t leave anything at a sad and unhappy ending, I just had to write it. If you prefer the ending of the first part, don’t read this.
Summary: Aftermath of a nightmare (in which everything manages to work itself out)
Several Days Later
There was an odd mantra in his head and he couldn’t seem to shake it. It was really annoying and if he wasn’t mistaken someone was hitting him. Hard.
“Wake up. Wake up. Wake up. Wake up. Wake up. Wake up.”
Luffy pried his eyes open and looked up. If he was expecting to see his heaven filled with meat, he was sorely disappointed. What he did see was the worried face his navigator, covered slightly by his hat. Luffy smiled and told her that he was a little surprised she ended up in heaven but it was still great to see her.
Nami stopped her ministrations of repeated slapping to his face and stared at him. She then bared her teeth and gave him the ‘fist of love’. Luffy nursed the bump on his head and thought that even dead she still packed a hell of a punch. Something about that niggled at his mind.
So he was dead after all. He shook his head. No, that wasn’t right. He ached too much and he was definitely too hungry. So where was he?
He sat up and checked his surroundings. It looked like the Thousand Sunny, it even smelled like the Thousand Sunny and he could make out the forms of his nakama spread over the deck and upper levels.
Chopper was with Usopp, bandaging his hands. Another failed experiment? Franky was serenading Robin, with Brook backing him up on his violin. Zoro and Sanji were…
Luffy blinked. That couldn’t be right. He checked again. Nope, still there.
They were hugging – Luffy could almost call it snuggling – just beyond the doorway of the galley. He was happy for his nakama but still. He looked to Nami, who was staring at him, her brows creased in worry. He waved vaguely in the direction of his swordsman and chef. “What…?”
Nami shrugged and graced him with a small smile. “Dying tends to change your priorities.”
He looked behind him and all he could see was blue. The ocean.
He turned back to Nami and grinned widely, relief pouring through him in waves. His exuberance at the situation had him bounding up and jumping to squat on the gunwale. He heard Nami behind him muttering “idiot” and he allowed his grin to soften. He started a little when he felt her hand at his back and blushed lightly when she leaned forward, her lips touching his ear.
“You had us worried, Captain.”
She made to pass his hat to him but he stilled her movements. Instead, he reached for her hand and brought it to his chest, holding it between his. Surely she could feel the racing of his heart. The smile he gave her outshone the sun and lit up their little part of the world.
Without any mention to the strangeness of the situation, Luffy decided that it didn’t matter how his hat was still in tact. It didn’t matter how they had all returned. It didn’t matter how he had survived.
He had his nakama and he was home.
