A/N: I have no reason, no excuse and no apologies.
It didn’t look much different than the rest of the leather bound books on the shelf and there was nothing to indicate that it was anything other than what it was.
The odd pull in his mind, telling him to pick it up and that he wouldn’t regret it, that all his desires and anything he had ever wished for in life, would be granted.
As fingertips traced the worn spine, ice flooded his veins and all the warmth in the room was drawn out. Trepidation still scoured at his skin but the urge of discovering ultimate knowledge and power had him pulling the volume from its place.
It really was inconspicuous. The front etched with gold leaf, worn from years of service and travel, spelling out JOURNAL in scripted writing.
He frowned a little. All these feelings of doom and destruction over someone’s log book? A shrug and with eager – but still cautious – fingers, he opened the bound cover and stared at the first page.
It took a few seconds for the words to register and when they did, there was an odd choking sound and stiff hands let the book fall to the floor. The words glaringly imprinted on that page were forever seared into his mind.
