The wind played at dark hair, sweeping at the brim of a famous strawhat. Eyes turned forwards, always looking to the future.

 

“It’s time.”

 

There was a slight flinch from the body, almost unnoticeable, and a nod of a head, seemingly heavy with too big of a burden. The smallest hitch found its way to an indrawn breath and the exhale almost proved too much.

 

“I know.”

 

There were no tears, no hugs, no emotions to present to the world. This point had been long in coming and it had arrived too fast.

 

The young pirate king turned to his crew – his nakama. Eight in total and every single one of them, irreplaceable. He gave them the biggest grin imaginable and held his arms wide.

 

“Go live your lives, guys. I’ll come visit you after I’ve had more adventures.”

 

The tears they gave him, threatened to overwhelm, threatened to have him breaking down along with the rest of them. He could do this. He could hold fast and let them go. His friends, his family.
